He was ready for Sohra, a popular tourist destination in Cherrapunji, on Scooty. On the way, they stayed in Mawlakhiyat village of Eastern Khasi hills. He parked his vehicle and hired a local guide for a trek for Shipara Homestay in Nongarit village.
23 May
In the morning, the couple was last seen together. He had checked out of Shipara Homestay and was reported to be disappeared after that. The last place picked up by his phone was Nongrite. From here, Sonam made his last phone call to her mother -in -law. In a clip of her conversation that emerged later, she was clearly painting due to a “hard trek”. The guide, who was at work by the couple, claimed that he did not put his services back on the path of Mawlakhiyat. He told him that he would manage his return.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that his government would not leave any stone to ensure justice in the murder of a tourist. He also assured the couple’s family that they were trying to find Sonam, which was still inaccessible.

Sonam remained unreachable for three days after her husband’s body was discovered in the gorge, causing deep concern among his family members.
