If you were planning to order food quickly via the Zomato App, this news is for you. Zomato has quietly removed its 15-minute food delivery service, called ‘Quick’, from the app. This means that the option to order food rapidly is no longer available. The service had been launched just a few months ago, but now there’s no trace of it on the platform.

What Was the ‘Quick’ Service?

Zomato launched the ‘Quick’ service with a promise to deliver food within 15 minutes. It was rolled out in major cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Gurugram. The service was part of Zomato’s ‘Everyday’ category, which offered affordable, home-style meals.

Why Was It Suddenly Removed?

Zomato has not issued an official statement on this decision. However, this isn’t the first time the company has discontinued a fast delivery service. Back in 2022, Zomato had introduced an ‘Instant’ delivery feature that promised food within 10 minutes. That plan also didn’t last long and was scrapped in early 2023.

What Were the Challenges?

While the concept of delivering food quickly sounds exciting, it proved to be very challenging in practice. One major hurdle was coordinating with restaurant partners, who already manage a large volume of orders. Preparing and delivering each order within just a few minutes while maintaining quality is a tough process.

Blinkit Becomes Zomato’s Silver Lining

In contrast, Zomato has received a strong response in the grocery delivery segment. After acquiring Grofers, Zomato rebranded it as ‘Blinkit’ and adopted a 10-minute grocery delivery model, which has turned out to be quite successful. Zomato is also experimenting with ‘Bistro by Blinkit’, a concept that delivers small food items quickly, though it’s currently available on a limited scale.

Is the Fast Food Delivery Model a Failure?

It wouldn’t be fair to call the idea of fast food delivery a failure, but implementing it is far from easy. When it comes to fresh and hot meals, delivering everything perfectly within 15 minutes is a serious challenge. That could be the reason why Zomato decided to step back from this model.

What’s Next?

For now, Zomato’s ‘Quick’ service has been removed from the app, and the company hasn’t shared any details about it. However, it’s clear that executing a rapid food delivery plan successfully—without compromising on quality—is not an easy task.
